Beer and a Ballgame

From Coors Factory to Coors field, you could say our day was full of Coors.

Rocky Mountain Kool-Aid

First up was a thirty minute trip out to Golden, Colorado, home of the Coors Factory. The air smells strongly of hops as soon as you step out of the car. We happened to go on one of the busiest weekends of the year, but we still got to go through and get the tour experience.

Welcome to Golden, CO!

Before you can officially go into the factory, you have to get a wrist band to certify you are 21, the legal drinking age. There are places along the tour where you can sample some of their different types of beers. At the end, you get three glasses to sample their different products. Unfortunately for me, I was two weeks away from turning 21 and there were no exceptions.

The tour gives you background on the history of the company and you can also see how the beer is made. That part of the tour made me feel like I was back home in the heat and humidity of the eastern seaboard. Like I said before, you get to sample three 8-oz. glasses of their products. Of course there is Coors, but they also have Blue Moon, Colorado Native (only available in Colorado), and there was a beer that was made during the days of prohibition.

While the other adults were enjoying their beer, I was drinking lemonade with the kids. Sigh.

All the brands

While we were sitting there relaxing, we decided to go to a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field. It was a spur of the moment decision. We ended up rushing out of the factory and zooming back down to grab a change of clothes and get over to Coors Field.

Our seats were in the 300-level. They weren’t front row seats, but we had a great view of the entire field. The coolest part of the stadium is the patch of trees in the back of the field with such a Colorado vibe.

By the time we arrives, the Rockies were already down 3-0 to the Brewers after the top of the first inning. That seems to be a common occurrence as a Rockies fan.

Rain Rain Go Away

Then it turned worse. The Rockies were down 6-0. Finally, in the fifth inning, the Rockies scored a home run with two men on base. 6-3. At the start of the ninth inning, the score was 7-5. But then during the ninth inning, the heavens opened. We were soaked to the bone. We were determined to stay because we had come a ways and paid for the tickets. However that wasn’t good enough because they called a rain delay in the intermission.

With just half an inning left, we decided to head out. We had to stop at the team store before we left. I ended up buying a Nolan Arenado shirt. He’s very handsome and an amazing player on top of that! I wanted some other things, but my suitcase was too tiny to buy too many things.

The rain was still coming down as we left the stadium and walked to the car. It took an hour to get back home. When we got home, the game was still delayed on TV! The delay ended up lasting an hour and forty-five minutes. At least we got to see the end of the game! Too bad the Rockies still lost.

I may not have tasted the beer, but I once again fell in love with the Colorado Rockies and had an enjoyable day. What can get better than beer and a ballgame?
