Princess for a Day: Neuschwanstein Castle

There’s something about a castle that I’ve always admired. Maybe it’s the history, the story behind the castle. Or maybe it’s just the hope many little girls have of being a princess. No, I’m still not bitter, Prince Harry.

Neuschwanstein Castle has been on my list for a few years now, mostly because it serves as the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland in Los Angeles. (The castle at EuroDisney is slighty different.) But once you hear some more history about the castle, it makes it even more fascinating.

Dos and Don’ts of Berlin

Last week, I got to check off another city that I’ve wanted to go to for some time off my list: Berlin. I found it to be quite an interesting city – the city is over 750 years old, but so much of recent history affects the way the city appears today. I kept thinking about how the Berlin Wall still existed just twenty-five years ago, with reminders all over the city. You walk through the city and see things that were rebuilt because of bombs dropped during WWII. You see DVDs with Nazi flags covering the landmarks of Berlin. It’s crazy to think that less than a century ago, people were actually seeing these things in the city I was visiting. Berlin is a great city, but there are definitely things you should do and shouldn’t do to maximize your enjoyment.

Köln: Day Trip to Cologne

If you ever find yourself in western Germany, I highly recommend a trip to Cologne, or Köln, in German. Hometown of Heidi Klum and the Köln Dom, it’s a great day trip! From Dusseldorf it’s about a 30 to 45 minute drive. We parked on the outside of town and took a train into the city.

A Few Days in Dusseldorf

During my junior year of high school, we had a German exchange student in our school. I was lucky to have sat next to her on the first day of class. I always loved asking her about how things are different in Germany. Since I was over in Europe, I thought it would be cool to see if I could visit her for a few days. She agreed and so it was off to explore a new country!

After a short night’s sleep from New Year’s, I hopped on a train and a plane and headed for Dusseldorf, Germany.
