I am now just a week away from my departure to Barcelona! It honestly doesn’t feel like I’m about to leave the States for the next nine months! So to build up the excitement, I thought I would come up with a list of ten places I would like to visit while I’m in Europe!
10. Prague, Czech Republic ✔
Prague is just a beautiful city. As the historic capital of Bohemia, it has so much history that I can connect to my studies in AP European History all those years ago.
9. Berlin, Germany ✔
There are so many great places to go in Germany, but Berlin is a great place to go for a first time visit. I really would like to visit the area where the Berlin Wall once stood and now holds the Brandenburg Gate.
8. Edinburgh, Scotland
People always kind of forget about Scotland, being England’s less glamorous neighbor to the north. But Scotland has a beauty of its own and is home to some of my favorite celebrities, including J.K. Rowling and Andy Murray. I’ve wanted to go to Edinburgh ever since J.K. Rowling did a reading at the castle for one of the book releases.
7. Belgium ✔
Despite Belgium beating the United States in overtime of the Round of 16 in the World Cup, I still think it would be a wonderful place to visit. I could enjoy authentic Belgian waffles or make my way to Ghent to see the Ghent Cathedral with the altarpiece designed by the van Eyck brothers. Like most of Europe, there are some really cool Gothic structures and just cool culture in general.
7. Dubrovnik, Croatia
Look familiar? Dubrovnik is the site of Kings Landing in the popular Game of Thrones series. I would love to visit this place to feel like I am elegantly walking through the streets of medieval Westeros. Croatia is also home to other filming locations for the series and has some beautiful beaches, so I’m definitely interested in going!
5. Andalucía, Spain
Ok. This one is a bit cheat-y. Andalucía isn’t a city, but it is a fabulous region in southern Spain that is what most people think of when they think of Spain. Nothing would beat seeing an authentic flamenco show in Sevilla. Of course, I want to visit the Alhambra in Granada, and see all the remnants from the Moors’ era in Málaga, Cádiz, and Córdoba.
4. Paris, France
If I go to Europe and don’t visit Paris at least once, I will have been a failure. I’ve never been there before, so I want to do all the cliché things Paris is famous for. Maybe I’ll get to go for New Years and watch fireworks blast over the Eiffel Tower as the clock strikes midnight and rings in 2015.
3. Rome, Italy ✔
Who doesn’t want to visit Rome? Rome helped birth modern Western society more than 2,000 years ago. There is so much history and so many beautiful sites to see that it’s definitely on my must-see list. I also think it would be awesome to go to Vatican City. Maybe I’ll run into Paolo who thinks I’m a mega-pop star and I’ll lead a double life like Lizzie McGuire. Or maybe I’ll just sip an espresso in a cute Italian café.
2. Madrid, Spain ✔
Rival city to Barcelona and home to the ever-powerful Real Madrid, Madrid is a Spanish city that has so much to offer. I’ll hopefully be going there at least once to support Los Blancos for a game (that means you need to come over here, Yanna!). I also just would appreciate exploring the history and architecture that makes the city so picturesque.
1. London, England ✔
I have wanted to go to London since I was 11 years old and obsessed with all things Harry Potter. When I was younger, I thought it would be so cool to go to Oxford and move to England forever. I was actually a little mad last year when the first country in Europe I would visit would be Spain because of my devotion to London. As a Spurs supporter and Tudor enthusiast, I hope I get to experience all London has to offer me!
There are so many more places I would like to visit and I’ll probably go to places I didn’t even think I would ever visit. Although after making this list, I must admit I do feel a little more pumped up about going over to Europe, but it still doesn’t feel real.
Do you have any favorite places to visit in Europe? Have you ever been to any of these places listed?

Edinburgh is on my list, but I feel like I have no excuse – i’m from England so it’s only over the border! Haha! I loved Prague and Berlin when I went, but didn’t have a good time in Rome sadly. I’d love to visit Barcelona!
You should definitely visit Barcelona. It’s my second favorite city after London. I’m lucky because I am an hour train ride from there right now so I can always go when I want.
