Day 12
Agés –> Burgos (around 20km)
Day 13
Burgos Rest Day
Day 14
Burgos –> Hornillos del Camino (21 km)
After spending a hot night in Agés (I think almost no one slept with a blanket), we set off early for Burgos. The guide books warn you to prepare for the shock of city life, but we were ready to be around civilization again.
The path to Burgos only includes one hill. It’s steep, but manageable. At the top of the hill, you can see Burgos from a far. Plus, it’s downhill and flat from there.
We ended up arriving in Burgos around 11:30 AM, meaning we walked for about four hours. Our shortest day yet. To celebrate, we ordered some churros and chocolate. Delicious.
Before going to my hostel, I met with the Spanish moms I met on my Camino a few days before. They are from Burgos, and even though their Camino adventure had ended a few days before, they invited me out for food. They treated me to morcilla, tigres (croquettas with a mussel), and patatas bravas. It was great to see them again. They really enjoyed their three days on the Camino and the people they met along the way.
In the evening, I checked into the hostel. My friends and I were the only ones in the room (until later that night). We had a shower in our room! What?! At night, we were able to have some fun since we didn’t have a curfew for once.
The next day, we had a rest in Burgos. Because it was Sunday, there wasn’t anything open. Even the cathedral was closed for tourism, so we didn’t get to check that out either.
Today, we woke up at 6, but we didn’t end of leaving Burgos until almost 7:30 after eating breakfast and trying to find our way out. The walk was rather boring and short. We arrived around 12 in a rather boring village. Not many people live here, and there isn’t even a supermarket here.
All of us are longing to get out of here as soon as possible. I think we’ll leave before 6 so we can knock out more miles and avoid the heat and boredom.
