En Camino: Back to Spain 2017

I’ve been holding on to this information for a while because it’s kind of nice having something that isn’t published to the world immediately. But yes, it’s true: I’m coming back to Spain.

Ever since I left last July, I’ve been considering the options to return. I’ll be studying a Masters degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education at the Instituto Franklin at the Universidad de Alcalá in Madrid.

I could have gone back with another company to teach English, but I wanted something more. I’ll actually be earning a Masters degree … classes, thesis, and all! Hopefully this will give me more weight and credibility in the world (and hopefully will lead to continued work in Europe). Basically, how it works, is that I’ll be doing a practicum in a school in Madrid while also taking classes in a classroom. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I know that it will all be worth it in the end.

I’m so grateful for all the experiences I’ve had in Spain as an auxiliar de conversa and this year as a permanent substitute. I know I’ll be as prepared as I can be when I get over there. The thing that makes me the most nervous is living in a different part of Spain. Or if you ask some of my Catalan friends, living in Spain for the first time. Jaja! I know it will take some time to adjust, but I am ready to get back into my Spanish ways. I’ve even been practicing how to make an amazing tortilla de patata.

I won’t be in Spain until mid-to-late September. I’m trying to decided when is the best time to go (and maybe take a trip to Tarragona for Santa Tecla). I’m getting nervous about finding an apartment and having to go through the process of setting up a bank account and a phone again. But like I said, I’m reading to be española again.

¡Hasta septiembre, España!
