Heraklion: From Zero to Hero

While planning my trip to Greece, I wanted to make a trip down to Crete. It’s the largest and most southern island in Greece. My dad had made a brief stop here as well during his time in the Navy, although not in Heraklion. Heraklion is named for Hercules, or Heracles in Greek. It’s not a very big city, or the most beautiful city, but it is a very interesting city to visit.

Copenhagen: Was It Hyggely?

Denmark: Land of Vikings. I had been wanting to see Denmark for a while now since I have family that left there in the 19thcentury, but it was just so expensive. I’m not going to lie. It’s incredibly expensive. But taking a trip to Denmark is necessary, and Copenhagen is a great place to see.

Sizzlin’ Sevilla

Andalucía: typical Spain. Tapas, hot weather, flamenco, palm trees. That’s what most people think of when they hear Spain, but really, those are more typical of the South. In three years of living in Spain, I had never been down there, making up so many excuses about needing time or the trains being too expensive. Finally, I decided to stop making excuses and just go to Sevilla.

Lisbon: What to Do

It’s been almost two weeks since I went to Lisbon, but I’m still blown away by how awesome it was. Honestly, I went to Lisbon with no expectations, which I think was a great thing to do. I was able to experience the city and make my mind up for myself. Last week, I told you things you needed to know to enjoy the city, but today, I’ll let you know what to do and see in Lisbon.

Lisbon: The Basics

It took me three years of living in Spain to finally make it to Portugal. I always thought the flights were too expensive or that the train took too long … it was just cheaper to go to another country. Finally, finally, I thought it was time to stop making excuses and just go. Man, am I glad I sucked it up.

I originally wanted to go to both Lisbon and Porto, but due to a lack of time and an increase in airline prices, I decided to only go to Lisbon. That was a great choice because it gave me enough time to see the city. Well, actually, there are still so many things that I want to do. I guess I will just have to go back again.

Lessons from Vienna

I’m fresh back from my vacation through the German-speaking countries! Vienna was great and I got to meet up with a friend there to make it even better. It’s a gorgeous and historic city, but there are some lessons I learned while in Austria.

Paris, C’est La Vie!

Paris is one of those cities you either love or you don’t. Some people fall in love with the perceived romance of the city, other people say the city smells. For me, Paris has always been one of the cities I knew I needed to go to, but I wasn’t very interested. Honestly, the main reason I wanted to go was to take a day trip to Normandy and see the Omaha Beaches (but that tour was cancelled …) Still, there is plenty to see and do in Paris, and I felt that I needed a little more time.

Bumbling Around Bilbao

Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything. The truth is, I haven’t had a lot of time to travel and do things. Between working in a concertada, having Masters classes on Friday evenings, and working for an internet company on the weekends, I’ve been grounded to Madrid. But I had to do something. We had a long weekend, or puente, so I chose to go to Bilbao.

Five Things to Do in Zaragoza

Guys, I’ve been so lazy. I haven’t written anything since the Real Madrid game I went to (I have another coming next week!), and I never wrote about my trip to Zaragoza. So finally, a month later, since today is a national holiday and tomorrow is another day off my school, I thought I should finally get it together.

Zaragoza is located in the Aragona region of Spain. It’s a decent sized city, with a population of over 600,000. If you’re looking for a wedding dress, you’re in luck! There were wedding dress shops on nearly every street. The best were the ones right next to baby stores. Get ready! Zaragoza has some pretty neat things to see and do, while still being affordable. I’ve picked out the best for you.

Best Barbecue: BBQ Exchange

Happy Friday, everyone! It may have only been a four-day work week for me, but man, did it drain me! The school I work at is going through their end-of-the-year statewide tests and it’s exhausting taking care of everything. So, in the honor of June coming and to brighten up this stressful week, I’ve decided we all need a little more barbecue in our lives. I think I may have found the best barbecue (at least in Virginia): BBQ Exchange.
